that works closely with communities worldwide to bring about sustainable
changes that improve the lives and livelihoods of the vulnerable. We
envision a world where everyone has the freedom, means and ability to live and
prosper with dignity.
Global
Communities in Rwanda is implementing a six year (2010-2016) Enabling Market Integration for Rural
Group Empowerment (EMIRGE) funded under the USAID Cooperative
Development Program. The program aims to improve livelihoods of Rwanda’s very poor in rural areas, by leveraging
the power of collective resources and facilitating strategic business
plans. EMIRGE employs a market systems approach based on comprehensive
analysis of high potential agricultural value chains, integrating groups of
marginalized economic actors into the mainstream economy by linking them to the
services and markets that will drive their growth and expand each value chain.
The EMIRGE program focuses on strengthening both the institutional
capacity and the social fabric of each cooperative, focusing on member driven enterprises
that raise incomes and resilience of smallholders.
