About the Fellowship
Placement Organization:The
Art & Global Health Center Africa (AGHCA) fosters creative leadership and
implements innovative arts-based, health-oriented programs that inspire and
mobilize. Three programs are at the core of our mission: Make Art/Stop AIDS
(MASA), Students With Dreams (SWD) and Umunthu (UP). MASA addresses vital HIV
and AIDS-related issues including gender inequality, stigma, and socio-economic
challenges, while empowering people to take control over their health through
prevention, testing, and treatment; SWD empowers young leaders to create and
implement innovative programs in response to challenges they see in society;
and UP brings voice to marginalized communities by using film as a catalyst for
discussion on contentious human rights issues, which have implications on
health. Our programs use collaboration to nurture healthy, empowered, open and
active communities in Malawi.
As a new organization, we are
currently focused on strengthening our infrastructure by securing partnerships,
which would ensure the sustainability of our programs. We are also focused on
establishing monitoring and evaluation systems and building strong links with
the community as well as with donors and partners.
