Position Description:
The Women’s
Empowerment, Ministry and Wellness Coordinator role is a full-time paid
position based in our Jinja, Uganda office. This position is responsible for
maintaining current empowerment and wellness programming; overseeing the
rollout of Akola’s new goal-based process empowerment initiative, including
goal-based educational programming; facilitating the development of wellness
policies as needed; assisting with Akola’s monitoring and evaluation efforts;
and providing research and recommendations for new empowerment and wellness
opportunities as they arise.
Responsibilities:
Leadership
- Lead
Akola Project beneficiaries in a way that facilitates a high performance
egalitarian culture of learning and development, trust and integrity - Seek
understanding with and unified leadership alongside the leadership team - Provide
Christian Leadership to the Akola women and to the community - Provide
a good example of good stewardship with time, resources and privilege for
the staff, employees, and women’s groups - Serve
as an active advocate for Akola Project, promoting the vision, mission and
goals of the organization amongst the community at all times to ensure the
organization maintains a positive public standing
Women’s
Empowerment, Ministry and Wellness Programs
- Manage
the recurring empowerment, ministry and wellness programs for the 22
artisans at Ngobi House, including Monday praise & worship (modeled on
Scripture Search), daily stretching break, Fun Friday team building games,
bi-monthly studio forum, monthly birthday celebrations, employee/expert of
the month celebrations, medical reimbursement program and wedding/burial
contributions & sick visits - Oversee
and contribute to the provision and facilitation of Christian wellness
services that include prayer, counseling, home visits and hospital visits
to spiritually support women facing personal and family challenges - Develop
and facilitate additional workplace wellness programs as needed - Develop
monthly Village Fellowship curriculum incorporating Scripture Search and
Appreciative Inquiry, and work with our Nabukosi Supervisor in
facilitating Village Fellowship - Manage
ministry and wellness programs in Pajule (our site in Northern Uganda) - Field
incoming new program requests (research, generate proposal, execute)
including but not limited to discipleship groups, counseling services, and
church plants (including attending any potential services) - Facilitate
the development of wellness policies as needed, and work to ensure
consistency in policy execution - Meet
with women’s groups regularly to maintain strong and healthy relationships
within the communities the Akola Project serves and actively seek needs
and opportunities for empowerment, ministry and wellness programming - Research
and provide information to the women’s groups about resources available
for women living in Uganda - Spiritually
uplift and encourage staff members
Monitoring
and Evaluation
- Assist
Empowerment and Educational Programs Manager in planning and executing 4
annual M&E activities - Input
data into M&E database and sort to generate data comparisons and
graphs - Generate
M&E data collection plans, perform data collection and submit reports
upon request
Personal
Sustainable Development Goal Program
- Work
with Empowerment and Educational Programs Manager to oversee the rollout
of Akola’s new process empowerment program, in which Akola will provide
the framework to support each member’s pursuit of her personal development
goals with peer mentors who assist each woman to identify an annual goal
and develop a strategy to reach her goal, track her progress, and celebrate
her successes - Assist
with peer mentor training as needed, assist in overseeing all program
activities and gatherings - Identify,
plan and run goal-based educational programs
Administration
- Create
and organize written records of all programming - Maintain
Micro Wellness Handbook and update detailed standard operating procedures
for the Women’s Empowerment, Ministry and Wellness Coordinator role as
needed - Oversee
the Jinja HR Supervisor and sick visits - Oversee
the Akola health benefits program and contributions for weddings and
burials - Communicate
regularly with Empowerment and Educational Programs Manager regarding
planning, programs and women in need of additional support both verbally
and through written reports - Generate
empowerment reports as requested - Assist
with other Akola Project programs as needed
Required Skills:
- Ability
to manage, support and motivate a culturally diverse team towards common
goals in the spirit of Jesus - Skillful
in building cross-cultural relationships - Proven
ability to think analytically and plan strategically, including setting
objectives, monitoring and evaluating impact, and identifying and applying
opportunities for learning and development with all team members
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s
degree from four-year college or university in International Relations,
International Development, or a related field - Experience
in cross-cultural Christian ministry - Professional
experience in statistics and Excel data management and manipulation a plus
- Experience
working in a cross-cultural development context (ideally within an African
nation) including management of people and resources desired - Ministry
or non-profit experience preferable - Valid
Drivers License
