POSITION PURPOSE:
The Learning Adviser at CIC has the responsibility
for developing and implementing programs to improve students’ academic
literacies. The Learning Adviser will work with academic staff to plan and
deliver resources to meet academic literacy needs within the Faculty. In
conjunction with the Director of Higher Education, the adviser will also be
responsible for developing and implementing innovative teaching and learning
strategies.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
- In collaboration with academic staff,
identify, develop and implement resources and appropriate strategies for
enabling academic literacies. - In collaboration with the Director of the
faculty, develop and implement new teaching and learning strategies. - In collaboration with the academic staff,
review, develop and implement appropriate strategies for online learning
and delivery - Design and deliver workshops appropriate to
meet identified academic literacy needs within the Faculty. - Provide academic literacy consultation to
students on a one-to-one basis - Provide expert advice and support on academic
literacies and related matters. - Provide training to student mentors.
- Build and manage relationships with other
staff members within the organization - Perform any other duties as required and as
appropriate for the incumbent’s level of competence

This position reports to the Director: Higher
Education.

REQUIREMENTS
- Qualification in an academic literacy related
field or equivalent accreditation and standing; - Demonstrated experience in teaching students
effectively and independently in a higher education environment in the
field of academic literacy and learning; - Demonstrated ability to initiate, develop and
implement original teaching strategies to accommodate for staff and
student needs; - Demonstrated experience in developing and
designing online language resources and/or educational training materials; - Demonstrated experience in identifying and
addressing the changing needs of students in the university across
disciplines and types; - Experience in using digital literacies;
- Experience with peer and mentor support
programs; - Demonstrated experience in building and
managing effective working relationships
