Turning On The Spotlight

Turn on the spotlight on yourself as far as morals, ethics and responsibility is concerned. Don’t allow yourself to be caught unaware by behaving as if the camera is on and the microphone is open at all times will help us to live a life of integrity. This will ensure that the picture you have of yourselves will be character-based and non-hypocritical. You don’t have to apologise for some of the actions taken today. According to Arthur Friedman, “Men of genius are admired. Men of wealth are envied. Men of power are feared. But only men of character are trusted”.

Once a popular motivator was speaking at a high school with several hundreds of students in attendance. Initially only one-third of the students were attentively listening. The other two-third were either reading or pretending to be asleep.

Then a local television station learnt that the speaker was there and sent a camera crew to get some shots. They worked through the aisle and came up the stage, get behind the speaker and started filming the entire student body as they listened to the presentation.

Suddenly, an interesting phenomenon occurred, one hundred percent of the students suddenly became alert, sat up straight and become attentive.

Why the dramatic change? The spotlight was on them. You don’t have to live your life that way. You have to turn on the spotlight on yourself always to ensure that integrity is upheld.
