We recruit graduates with a good degree in any subject. We are looking for people with have an active interest in sport, and with evidence of leadership or management experience. They must also show commercial sense, natural customer service skills and an energetic and hands-on approach. We recruit graduates into our stores as Trainee Department Managers. From the first day they are responsible for the smooth running of one of the departments in store. This involves managing and recruiting a team of sales assistants to keep high levels of merchandising, stock and sales in the department.
Trainee Department Managers follow a programme of 140 hours training over their first two years in the company. Trainings begin with in store basics: security, merchandising, stock control, sales and products. Once these points are mastered, the department manager can then move onto more advanced trainings: recruitment, management, finance, employment law and business plan. Trainings take place in store, and at our head offices in London and Lille, France. We place great importance on the development of our employees, and provide continuous training as their careers develop in the company.
Trainee Department Managers also have a regular ‘coaching’ meetings with the Store Manager to provide one-to-one training and help with their progress and development. These meetings take place every week in the first months in the job, and then on a monthly basis as the trainee gains more experience.
Once graduates succeed in their first job with us, there are many opportunities for further development, either in the UK or abroad, or in or out of store.

Our objective is to make the pleasure of sport accessible to the largest number of people. We work hard to provide 100% satisfaction for all our customers by providing real sports equipment, for real sports-men and women, of every level and ability, at excellent value prices. Decathlon relies on a sporty, dynamic workforce to achieve this and the management of this workforce is largely decentralised to give responsibility to those closest to our customers. Being a sporty company, we work hard and play hard and the next challenge is never far round the corner!
TRAINING
Just as a serious sportsperson has to train and be coached, but also needs lots of match practice to win, we believe the same is true of our staff. So our graduates don’t follow a classical “graduate training scheme” but instead receive a mix of formal training, coaching from their store manager and on the job practice. You will be given responsibility for your own department from day one, but whilst you are gaining practical experience you will also be acquiring the theoretical knowledge you need to succeed in your role.

At Decathlon, when you have succeeded in your role as a Department Manager you will have the opportunity to move into other store based roles, before moving onto run your own store as a Store Manager or discovering one of our other business areas.
