Rwanda Investigation Bureau (RIB) has detained Eugenie Ndigendereho in Nyabihu District on suspicion of impersonating a RIB worker and asking for cash from individuals promising to deal with their civil cases.
According to RIB, Ndigendereho called herself an officer in charge of children’s affairs and requested cash from single parents promising them to order the fathers of their children to register them in the civil status book.
RIB continues to conduct investigations to determine how many individuals were impacted.RIB
Investigators are also attempting to find out if more suspects are involved.
In the meantime, Ndigendereho was discovered in books where she recorded the victims ‘ names
The RIB spokesman, Modeste Mbabazi, verified that this event had occurred and warned all those who fake positions to deprive individuals of their cash that severe effects would follow.
He recommended Rwandans to be diligent and report on rogue behavior to officials in case they suspect anyone.
Article 279 of the Rwanda Penal Code stipulates that “any person who, without tittle usurps public, civil or military functions or poses the acts of one of these functions or falsely attributes to himself or herself the quality of a public official or publicly wears a costume, a uniform, badge or an emblem with an intention to mislead the public, commits an offence.”
She is responsible for imprisonment on conviction for a term not less than two (2) years and not more than three (3) years, and for penalties not less than Rwf300000 but not more than Rwf500000.
