Walk the Roof of the World: Annapurna, Everest, Pikey Peak:

Nepal. you hear names and already picture mountains. big ones. the kind that lives in the sky. The air is so clean, so sharp, it makes your chest sting. People call it the roof of the world, and they are not wrong. there the trails where boots eat dust, snow, mud, whatever the mountain throws. Three of them keep calling me. Annapurna Circuit Trek. Everest Three Pass Trek. Pikey Peak Trek. each one a different taste, different pain, different joy. but same heart – they make you walk, they make you breathe, they make you feel small but also bigger inside.

Annapurna circuit trek

At Annapurna Circuit Trek you start low. warm air. rice fields like green steps uphill. kids run barefoot and shout hello. women carry baskets of greens, men work in the field. you walk past water so clearly it looks fake. air wet, smell of earth. You think this trek is just pretty. but it is not just pretty.you go up. higher. The hill changes to a cliff. green changes to brown. river roar. trail wind along the gorge, old wooden bridges creak under your boots. The wind tastes cold now.villages are different here. stone houses. blue roofs. Prayer flags hang like they are talking to the wind. you spin prayer wheels without even thinking.

The days stretch. sun up early, gone quick. you sleep under a heavy blanket, sometimes wake at night and see stars like ice on black water.thorong la pass. the big one. 5,416 meters. you start in the dark, lamp on head, breath slowly. legs heavy. Every step feels like the last. The wind is loud. snow crunch. but when you stand on top, oh. sky open, peaks everywhere. Some cry, some laugh, some just stand. you can see forever, but forever too big to understand.

downhill hard on knees. you see new land – dry, dusty, cliffs carved by time. you stop in marpha, apple pies in teahouse smell like home. yak stand in the sun, don’t care about you.The loop closed days later. legs sore, heart full. You’ve been through jungle, desert, ice, and back. The annapurna circuit is like the whole world in one walk.

Everest three pass trek

This one does not play. Everest Three Pass Trek is not for soft steps. it chews you. it spit you. and you thank it.start in lukla. the little airport where planes land on short strips and if it misses, it’s gone. The air is thin even here.walk to namche bazaar. Sherpa town is like stairs built into a mountain. Shops sell gear, bakeries smell like chocolate and cinnamon.first pass – kongma la. rocks, ice, nothing else. you go up slow, breath loud. Sometimes the wind pushes you. You feel small, but strong too.then cho la. glacier crossing. ice crack under crampon. mountain wall on both sides, snow blind your eyes if you look too long.

renjo la last. maybe the most beautiful. you see gokyo lakes – water blue like a dream, still, quiet. and Everest, lhotse, makalu, standing there like kings.between passes, you see monasteries. gold roofs, red walls, butter lamps flicker. Monks chant slow, deep. Prayer flags snap in the wind. The night here is colder. stars bright like they close enough to touch. you lie in bed, your lungs remember the climb. you smile in the dark.

Three passes is not just a trek. It is a fight. Every climb teaches you. Every view rewards you.

Pikey peak trek

Pikey Peak Trek is like a secret. not many go. but those who go, they don’t forget.trail starts in solu. lower hills. farmers work, children play, life is simple.you walk in the forest. Rhododendron trees are tall, in spring flowers red, pink, white. birds call. The smell of pine, wet earth.villages small, teahouses warm. An old woman spun wool, and a young boy brought you tea.summit day. early. dark. wind cold on my face. your headlamp makes a little bubble of light. step after step.

Then the sun came. slow. and the whole Himalaya wakes. Everest there, makalu there, kanchenjunga far away. peaks line the horizon. you feel like you can hold them if you reach. The wind is strong up here, but you don’t care. You stand, breathe, look.descent is easy, but you keep turning back. Because of that view, it sticks in you.

Same mountain heart

these three treks – different in time, in height, in pain. Annapurna gives you variety, villages change, climate change. Everest three passes give you a test, push you till you think no more, then give you a view worth it. pikey peaks give you peace, open sky, mountain lines like songs.but they are the same in soul. you walk. you eat simple. dal bhat, noodle soup, chapati with honey. you sleep in the teahouse, fire warm your hands. strangers become friends. Mornings always start with boots and a pack.

People you meet

on annapurna, you meet gurung, thakali. They smile quickly. They know the trail like their own hand.
On the Everest side, a sherpa carries a load, laughing in the wind. they show you which peak is which. monks bless you with a knot of red thread.
on pikey, fewer tourists. locals are curious. they talk, they pour you butter tea, they ask about your home.

Weather and when to go

spring – march to may. flowers bloom, mornings clear.
autumn – september to november. sky sharp, views long.
winter – snow on high pass, cold deep in bone.
summer – rain, leech in low, cloud hide peak. but the trail is quiet, green and lush.

How it feel

At first, you think of home, of the phone, of comfort. Then you forget them. You think of the next step, the next tea, the next ridge.
Some days are heavy. rain fall, wind push, sun burn. some days light. you run down the hill, laugh at nothing.on annapurna, you feel you have gone far. on Everest, you feel you have gone high. on pikey, you feel you have gone deep into peace.

Cost and comfort

annapurna, pikey – cheaper. food fair, bed simple but fine. Everest – more cost. everything flown or carried in. comfort? not a hotel. wooden bed, blanket heavy. Sometimes a hot shower, sometimes a bucket. but food tastes best after a long walk.

Guide or alone

annapurna – easy to follow alone. Everest passes – guide smart ideas. weather change, snow hide trail. pikey – can do both, but guides give more story.

what it do to you

These treks make the body strong. legs learn to climb, lungs learn to breathe slowly. mind, learn patience.
you stop rushing. you see frost on grass, hear yak bell far off, smell smoke from kitchen.
you carry this home. Maybe you come back, maybe not. But the mountain is already in you.

Last steps

The roof of the world is not just a high place. It is a feeling. annapurna, Everest three pass, pikey peak – they each give you a piece of it.
you go, you walk, you hurt, you laugh, you eat, you sleep, you wake, you go again. and somewhere on the trail, you change.
