Location: Uganda – KampalaPurpose of Assignment:
Assist the Senior Engineer and the Hardware Production Assistant 1 in:
• Ongoing care and maintenance of the Mbuya workshop
• Maintaining safe working conditions in workshop
• Maintenance and upkeep of all tools and equipment in Mbuya workshop
• Production of the Digital Drum prototypes which will include but is not limited to: welding, cutting, machining, soldering, painting and other assembly-related duties
• Possible tasks related to the installation of Digital Doorways at identified sites; basic training of on-site maintenance teams
• Other duties as assigned by Senior Engineer or T4D Unit Coordinator
• Occasional travel may be required for site surveys, installation and maintenance of computers
Tasks 1.
Assist team in preparation of Digital Doorways for installation.
End Product/deliverables
All Digital Doorways to be installed are prepared for shipment.

Task 2.
Assist the Engineer and the Hardware Assistant 1 with completion of at least
one Community Computer prototype.
End Product/Deliverable
Operational Community Computer prototype.

Task 3.
Assist team in design and initial production work for community computer systems in Mbuya workshop.
End Product/Deliverables
Documentation of changes made to Community Computer system and required changes in shop procedure submitted to Senior Engineer.

Task 4.
Assist the Engineer and the Hardware Assistant 1 with completion of at least one Community Computer prototype.

Operational Community Computer prototype.

Qualifications or specialized knowledge/experience required for the assignment:
Education and experience required:
• Experience with manual repair and installation of structures (wood, metal etc); set up of basic electronics
• Experience working with tools and in workshop environment
• Willing to travel within Uganda (sometimes on short notice)
• Residence in Kampala, Uganda, for duration of contract
