Teenager sentenced to jail for traffic violation

On Friday, a court of magistrates in Minna convicted an 18-year-old, Yusuf Mohammed, to eight weeks in jail for breaking traffic rules.

The police charged Mr Mohammed with four counts of dangerous driving, failing to comply with traffic regulations, driving without plate number and driving without side mirror.

Mariam Kings convicted Mr Muhammed in her decision after pleading guilty to the crime and begging leniency from the court.

However, Ms Kings gave the convict an alternative to pay an N8,000 fine.

Aliyu Yakubu, the prosecutor, informed the court earlier that the convict was riding an unregistered motorcycle and beating the traffic lights.

The offense, he said, contravened the highway traffic regulations provisions of sections 35, 18, 36 and 54.
