Rwanda government donates medical kits to support UNMISS in COVID-19 pandemic fight

As part of its response to the COVID-19 pandemic, Rwanda has donated testing medical kits to the United Nations Mission in Southern Sudan (UNMISS).

This is part of the earlier promised 200 COVID-19 test kits and personal protective equipment to the mission in support of international efforts to contain the spread of the virus.

100 test kits were handed over to UNMISS officials in Juba City by RwandAir at Juba International Airport.

It is intended to improve the ability of the mission to test and treat personnel, and the remaining test kits will be in available soon.

Brig Gen Eugene NKUBITO, Rwanda Senior Representative in UNMISS and Sector Juba Commander handed over those medical kits to John SENGUI Barber and Lt Col Su KHAN on behalf of UNMISS.

Brig Gen Eugene NKUBITO, said the medical kits will contribute to mass testing and COVID19 sampling within UNMISS peacekeepers.

He said, “COVID-19 is a common enemy to mankind, and cooperation is the way to defeat the pandemic”.

John Segui Barber, UNMISS’ medical representative, thanked the Rwandan government for the help saying it would greatly boost UNMISS’ combat capability against Covid-19. “These kits are definitely augmenting our speed in testing staff” said Barber.

The donation of medical kits to UNMISS comes after steps have been taken by the Republic of Rwanda to test and sample COVID-19 to UNMISS peacekeepers in Rwanda including the military, police and collection service.

In this week 1400 peacekeepers were tested. In other missions where Rwandan peacekeepers are deployed this operation will continue.
