In adding his voice to the hotly debated topic of whether or not a DNA test to determine the paternity of children is necessary in a case of a suspected adulterous wife, a renowned Nigerian author Azuka Onwuka, has taken to his Facebook page to make known his view in what many considers to as a defense to support adulterous women in Igbo Land where he originate from.
In his word, he wrote:
“ Any child born by my wife while we are married is my child, even if 20 DNA results say otherwise. My behaviour towards that child will never change, unless he/she decides to change.
No child born under my roof will suffer any ill-treatment because of the indiscretion of a parent.
My Igbo tradition supports this. My Christian faith supports this. My life philosophy and ideology support this.
Children are gifts from God. We are mere vessels through which they come into the world. Our duty is to nurture them until they are old enough to stand firmly on their feet.
But if you are among those who usually sneer: “easier said than done”, na you sabi.
If you are one of those who believe acts of infidelity by men or women should be resolved with murder, suicide or rejection of the child, that is also your business.
As far as I am concerned: “A child is a child.” That is my own belief. You can have your own belief and enjoy it. That is life.”
