After rainstorm on Friday at least 50 houses were destroyed in Badariya district, Mobile Police Barrack, Bayan-Kara and parts of Gesse III in Birnin Kebbi.
A cross-section of the victims interviewed Saturday at the scene expressed surprise at the incident.
They said it would be difficult now, however, to determine the damages and number of affected homes.
Isyaku Mohammed, an area resident, claimed the rainstorm may have affected more than 50 homes.
“One might not be wrong to say over 50 houses have been destroyed in different parts of the state capital.
“We accepted what happened as the will of God Almighty, who does what He wants at the time He wants, without questioning from anybody,’’ Mohammed said.
However, he appealed to the state government to come to the victims’ aid to cushion the disaster’s effect.
Isaac Musa, one of the victims, said that the rainstorm began late in the evening and destroyed a number of houses “not only here in Badariya but in other places too’’.
He has called on the government , Non-Governmental Organizations and well-meaning Nigerians to help them resettle.
In a quick reaction to the threat, Kebbi’s Gov. Atiku Bagudu visited and sympathized with the affected communities over the incident.
A statement made available in Birnin Kebbi on Saturday by Abubakar Mu’azu-Dakingari, Chief Press Secretary, Government House, said the Governor visited the scene on Friday evening.
The governor made an on-the-spot visit to the region to assess property damage at Badariya, he said.
Mr Bagudu promised the government would provide relief materials for the victims.
He said an assessment would be made of the damaged houses to determine the level of damages.
Mr Bagudu advised the victims to consider the incident to be an act of God, and he prayed to Allah to help them.
Reports reveal that the windstorm at Badariya destroyed several buildings and electric poles, thus plunging the communities into darkness.
The rainstorm is believed to be unprecedented since the beginning of this year
