NFF announces two friendly games for Super Eagles

The President of the Nigeria Football Federation, Amaju Pinnick, has confirmed that two friendly games in September will put the Super Eagles back to action.

Mr Pinnick pointed to the fact that the planned friendly games to be played in Paris would only go ahead depending on the COVID-19 pandemic situation.

During a live Instagram session he had with the NFF communications department Thursday, the NFF boss made this disclosure.

He says preparations to have the Super Eagles meet an African as well as a South American team in Paris in September are already at an advanced level.

Nonetheless, he said the federation will only make the opponents’ identity public after all arrangements have been concluded.

“We have two international friendly games billed for Paris in September and when we conclude the arrangements, which are at 70 per cent now, we will make it public,” Pinnick assured.

“We hope to make use of the FIFA windows in both September and October,” he added.

Since winning bronze at the 2019 Egypt-hosted Africa Cup of Nations, Gernot Rohr ‘s men have resumed the search to qualify for the next AFCON tournament now billed to take place in Cameroon in 2022.

Nigeria’s national team was scheduled to face Sierra Leone in March, but the games were postponed due to the Coronavirus outbreak around the world.

In November 2019 the last match for the Eagles was against Lesotho.

Nigeria won 4-2 in Maseru in the AFCON qualifier.

With virtually no activity, the world football governing body, FIFA has ranked Nigeria third (3rd) best team in Africa and thirty-third (33rd) in the world.

The new FIFA world ranking, released on its website on Thursday 16 July, is the new since the last June 11, 2020 issue.

Among other things, standard friendly games as expected by the NFF would help the country progress on the FIFA monthly rankings standings.
