Rwandan beauty queens would participate in Miss Supranational Beauty Contest over the previous nine years, but without achievement in one of the world’s largest and most prestigious pageants, particularly since there was no local support.
However, two local event management companies, KS Ltd and Innovations Ltd, verified their collaboration to take the pageant to Rwanda with the Miss Supranational organizers. Last week, during a news conference, the partnership was verified and the organizers said the competition was a great chance for Rwandan females to showcase their beauty, culture and talent to the rest of the globe.
The search has started and the preliminary rounds are ongoing. The registration exercise continues for the beauty contest’s inaugural edition.
Miss Supranational is considered the world’s third most famous beauty contest after Miss World and Miss Universe, representing over 90 nations from around the world.
The pageant was founded in 2009 in Płock, Poland, with its first edition. Miss Supranational’s responsibilities are to work for charitable causes and to travel around the globe to promote tourism, goodwill among all countries, and a good picture.
Alphonse Nsegiyumva, one of Miss Supranational Rwanda’s chapter organizers, said the competition would offer Rwandan aspiring beauty queens a platform and chance to compete internationally.
“Before introducing the pageant to Rwanda, a few people would come forward to support our girls to participate in the competition, but it was hard because not everyone understood the concept. But the crown is now up for grabs at the national level, and we shall help the winner to implement her project, and to compete in other international pageants,” said Nsegiyumva.
Criteria for Miss Supranational
The contestants must be between 18 and 28 years of age, not married or born. Must not be less than 1.70 m tall and should have no noticeable tattoos on the body.
Aspiring candidates have two weeks to apply, according to the timetable. The request passes through the website of the pageant (www.misssupranational.rw) from July 17 to August 2.
During the casting practice from August 3-11, eligible candidates will be chosen before the top 15 hopefuls are voted by the public, who will proceed to the boot camp on September 3.
The contestants will engage in the talent night on the eve of the finals, during which they will exhibit their talents. A panel of magistrates will also ask them questions to test their intellectual ability and how they are ready to compete internationally.
The top five participants will work together to find alternatives to this year’s theme: “How might we provide comprehensive sexual and reproductive health service to girls and women in order to fight against pregnancy in Rwanda”, and they will work with relevant government institutions during the implementation of their project.
Clementine Uwase was proud to be carrying the Rwandan flag last year, although she did not take back the crown, but represented the nation on the world level.
