On Friday, the Kano State Police Command said it had detained 122 suspected criminals in its intensified crime assault and state security threats.
State Police Commissioner Ahmed Iliyasu informed Kano reporters that suspects were arrested in state-wide criminal hideout raids and black spots between June 7 and Friday.
Mr. Iliyasu said that the command had set in place fresh operational approaches, including technical intelligence gathering and community policing, in line with the “Operation Puff-Adder” mission aimed at riding that state of all types of crime.
He said three people who were suspected of kidnapping a bride and her two friends but were later saved by the police were picked up in the forest of Falgore.
He added that on Thursday at Kano metropolis 11 suspected armed robbers were detained.
Also on June 13, the commissioner said seven impostors were detained for criminal conspiracy and parading themselves as National Guard staff attached to Kano unit.
He said the suspects wore armed forces and paramilitary kits and extorted cash from the public.
Similarly, he said that during the raids, 82 hoodlums commonly known as ‘ Yan daba ‘ were apprehended, including two ATM scammers.
Mr Illiyasu said that one Pump Action gun was retrieved from the suspects with 15 rounds of live cartridges, 115 live ammunition of AK 47 Rifle, three stolen vehicles, 53 bags of suspected cocaine, 43 knives and 58 clubs (Gora).
He identified other objects retrieved as 20 other hazardous guns and breaking equipment, nine cartons of expired Bio-Vein Injection used for insemination and hallucination.
Others were 10 handsets, one laptop, a desktop, huge amounts of hard drugs, rubber solution, and “suck and die.”
Mr. Iliyasu also revealed that 140 suspects arrested throughout the state two weeks earlier were sentenced to different courts, adding that all fresh suspects would also be charged after inquiry.
He ensured that the activities of Puff-Adder would be carried out throughout the state until all criminal-minded people repented or left the state, stating “there is no hiding place for any criminal.”
