Together with the Rwanda Girl Guides Association (RGGA), the World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scout (WAGGS) has granted First Lady Jeannette Kagame for her tireless job in championing the Girl Child’s empowerment.
The prize was presented on Saturday, the first day of Girl Guide and Girl Scouts ‘ 12th Africa Regional Conference to promote and expand girl guide and girl scouting in the area and nations.
The four-day conference was held in Nyamata, Bugesera District from July 16 to 20, 2019 under the theme ‘ Unite, Thrive and Growth, ‘ and gathered attendees from 41 nations.
Youth Minister Rosemary Mbabazi, who hosted the conference and received the prize on behalf of First Lady, said she was so humbled and honored to have received an award from worldwide girl guides on behalf of Her Excellency First Lady Rwanda for her tireless job in championing the Girl Child’s empowerment.
Mrs Jeannette Kagame expressed appreciation for this recognition to the Global Girl Guides.
“We will continue to work together to ensure every girl child is safe and educated,” she tweeted.
Mrs Jeannette Kagame encourages females and girls through different organisations such as the 2001 Imbuto Foundation.
The foundation uses a holistic strategy to elevate the most vulnerable groups through educational, health, and socio-economic programs.
In 2001, she organized the Organization of African First Ladies Against HIV / AIDs (OAFLA) meeting for which she served from 2004 to 2006 as president.
Mrs Jeannette Kagame was at the forefront of advocacy for HIV patients during her term of office.
For her contribution to helping girls and females, it is not the first time the First Lady has been awarded.
In 2016, the First Lady also received the ‘ Outstanding Leader Award ‘ for her dedication and commitment to girl education in the fields of science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) at the third edition of the annual Ms Geek 2016 Awards ceremony in Kigali.
The First Lady also received the African Women of Excellence Awards (AWEA) last year for her excellent job on empowering females and her general contribution to the development of Africa in Johannesburg, South Africa.
