Geoffrey Onyeama, Nigeria’s foreign minister, has condemned the violent protest at the Nigerian Embassy in Jakarta , Indonesia, by some Nigerians.
On Thursday 25 June, angry Nigerians living in the country staged a protest at the Embassy over the alleged discrimination and targeted raids by Indonesian immigration officers. They accused Nigerian officials of not defending them from the perceived oppression Indonesian immigration officers have inflicted on them. The protest came one day after a man from Nigeria, Chike, plummeted to death fleeing from Immigration officers.
The demonstrators vandalized the gate leading into the premises to the Embassy and also some vehicles.
Reacting to the incident, the Foreign Minister said efforts will be made to identify and punish the “Hooligans” who carried out the high commission attacks.
”Absolutely deplorable and disgraceful criminal behaviour by Nigerian hooligans who without justification attacked the Nigerian Embassy in Jakarta, Indonesia.
Every effort will be made to identify them and see they are severely punished. Totally unacceptable behaviour.” he tweeted
