The FCT Muslim Pilgrims Welfare Board began reimbursing pilgrims who paid more than the real hajj fare in 2019 and performed hajj.
The Public Relations Officer of the Board of Directors, Muhammad Aliyu, explained in a statement that the refund was due to a reduction of hajj fare in 2019 following a review of the charges by service providers negotiated by the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria.
He said the refund would benefit all pilgrims who paid the initial hajj fare above N1,497, 480,65 for the hajj exercise.
Therefore, Mr Aliyu advised pilgrims who had paid more than the authorized hajj fare and took part in the practice through the board in 2019 to submit their request for refund.
He said such pilgrims should state the details of their bank account and receipt of payment as there would be no cash payment for the refunds.
He said pilgrims who had already submitted the appropriate data to the board should not bother to apply again as the board had reached an advanced phase in processing the refund payment.
He said the relevant document should be submitted in the six FCT Area Councils or at the board headquarters in the Central Area, Abuja, to the respective area officers or any officer of the board.
He clarified that it was anticipated that pilgrims who had no bank account would forward letters authorizing the board to pay the cash into the account of third parties which the recipient should provide with the details.
