The Department of Petroleum Resources’ (DPR) Osun Field Office says it will begin to enforce the use of face masks at filling stations across the state to prevent COVID-19 from spreading.
DPR Operations Controller Olusegun Daboh said this in an interview in Osogbo on Wednesday.
Mr. Daboh said that regulation of the use of face masks in public places, including filling stations, was intended to help government curb the spread of the virus in the state.
He said that because petrol attendants at the filling stations would communicate with different vehicles, they needed to put on masks and also to obey certain safety guidelines.
The controller said oil marketers should also be sensitized to other health measures, such as the use of hand sanitizers and social distancing at filling stations.
Mr Daboh said the department will continue to help the efforts of the government to reduce the spread of the virus within its field of operations.
“We will soon embark on the enforcement and sensitisation of petroleum marketers at filling stations in the state.
“This effort is to assist government at minimising the spread of the virus in the state.
” There is no doubt that large number of people usually go to filling stations to buy fuel and that is why we want to ensure that both the attendant and their customers make use of face masks,” he said.
Mr Daboh also warned marketers that products would be under-dispensed, saying anyone caught in the act would be dealt with in accordance with the law.
