Cecafa Kagame Cup 2019: KCCA dethrones Azam FC in Rwanda

The win over Tanzania’s defending champions Azam FC implies that KCCA has finished the 41-year wait for the title.

After beating defending champions Azam FC at Kigali Stadium in Rwanda, KCCA won the 2019 Cecafa Kagame Cup.

Kizza Mutyaba hit to break the deadlock and end the trophy’s lengthy wait for the Ugandan champions, winning the  title last time in 1978.

KCCA’s Okello scored a objective which was later excluded in the sixth minute by referee Ishimwe Claude who said  the Ugandan forward committed an infringement in the goal scoring process.

Another opportunity for the Ugandan champions was attracted in the 19th minute when Mike Mutyaba collected  a fine cross from Muzamiru Mutyaba but his effort was too timid within the area and was easily collected by  Razak Abalora of Azam

Youngster Anaku Saddat was unfortunate that he didn’t open the score in the 26th minute after Herbert Achai only  placed him on the line to send his effort wide with Abalora all but beaten in goal.

Azam’s Yakubu Mohamed created another definite goal- scoring opportunity in the 42nd minute a very important block to deny KCCA. Anaku tried a clever short-range effort, but before pulling the trigger, Mohamed read his intentions and closed on Anaku.

Mustafa scored KCCA’s first goal of the game in the 62nd minute after Azam failed to thwart the Ugandan side’s  build-up again.

Meanwhile, after beating Democratic Republic of Congo AS Maniema 2- 0, Green Eagles won the bronze medal of the tournament. Edward Mwamba’s 28th-minute objective followed by Amity Shambe’s one in the 68th minute was enough to hand over the inter-club tournament’s third place to the Choma side.
