Mercy Eke, winner of the BBNaija reality TV show’s 2019 edition, revealed how a fan made her lose millions of naira in a deal with a champagne company.
She was approached by a champagne company, according to Mercy, who wanted her to sign an agreement with them, as well as attending a party they wanted to organize and she had to.
Being impressed by the outcome of the meeting with Mercy and her management team, the company paid her the agreed sum even before the dotted lines were signed.
This happened on a Wednesday and on Thursday Mercy was supposed to start activating the deal, which was the second day, only for a fan to spoil the partly sealed deal.
Mercy told her fellow former housemates who were present for the BBNaija 2019 Reunion show that the fan in question appealed to one of the champagne company’s staff members to ask whether it was true that the company had recently signed Mercy and whether it was true that she would attend the company’s upcoming party.
Unfortunately, a call from the company worker told the fan that Mercy had no agreement with the company and would not attend the party.
The fan was reported to post the information given on the internet after the call, and to make internet users troll Mercy.
That hasn’t gone well with her, according to Mercy. “Immediately I saw that, I called Chief Priest and told him what was going on the internet and we decided that if the company say they do not know me, me too do not know them.
I told the company that if I was going to go ahead with the deal, they should release an official statement saying that they know me and to also apologise.
“My management made me return the money because, they refuse to apologise and the damage has been done.”
According to her, although the company was a big and well-recognized one, she could not go ahead with the deal.
She blamed the loss of money, the damage to her reputation and image on the fan who went ahead to publish information that was not accurate and that was not obtained from the right sources.
