Position
Description:
The
purpose of this position is to drive Tractors as assigned by the Workshop Supervisor
& Farm Mechanic and maintain the allocated vehicle on a daily basis. The
Tractor driver’s paramount responsibility is the safety and efficiency of the
tractors and other farm equipment, as well as to carry out his duties in an
accurate, timeouts manner under the supervision of the Workshop Supervisor
& Farm Mechanic to ensure that tractors and farm equipment are in
road-worthy conditions all the time.
Key
essential functions of the position shall include the following:
  • Carrying
    out all farm land and crop preparation, chemical spraying, fertilizer
    application and harvesting in accordance with Mechanic and Crops
    Supervisor  instructions;
  • Ensure
    safety of goods in transit and passengers, insisting that only authorized
    passengers travel on the tractor and trailed equipment
  • Driving
    his/her allocated tractor on the farms and roads between the farms, in
    respect of the law and traffic rules, professionalism and respect for
    pedestrians and other road users;
  • Transporting
    crops and inputs from the warehouse to and from the field as instructed by
    Crops Supervisor and Farm Clerk;
  • Recording
    all trips in Tractor log book.
  • Maintaining
    and safe operation of Tractors and trailed Equipment
  • Mechanical
    repairs on tractors and any other farm equipment in consultation with
    the  workshop supervisor/mechanic;
Required
Expertise & Experience:
  • Minimum:
    High School diploma, with clean driver’s license for motor vehicles,
    tractors and motorbike
  • Minimum
    Required Experience: 5 years in a similar position, with minimum 3 years
    working in a farm setting.
  • Mechanical
    Skills; able to do maintenance  of tractors and vehicle
  • High
    level people skills and ability to build relationships with a diversity of
    people at all levels.
  • Able
    to communicate in English to understand and execute simple instructions.
This
position requires the employee to be flexible in terms of working hours, the
nature of farm work means that occasionally the driver will be required to
longer hours, early mornings, or evenings
