Real Madrid emerged as the new champions of LaLiga following their 2-1 win Thursday night over Villarreal.
Zinedine Zidane’s men went into Thursday’s tie knowing a victory over the Yellow Submarine would seal their first title in three years and with two goals from Karim Benzema they secured and an astonishing 34th La Liga title.
Benzema placed Madrid 1-0 ahead just before the half-hour mark, before scoring his 21st goal in the second half from the penalty spot.
While Villarreal by Samuel Chukwueze did pull back a goal, it was not enough to either postpone or ruin Real Madrid ‘s party.
This LaLiga title is the 11th trophy for Zidane during his club managerial reign.
It is also Madrid’s first League title since Cristiano Ronaldo left two seasons ago to join Juventus.
Although it was all a celebration for Real Madrid, their strong Barcelona rivals slumped to a 2-1 surprise loss to Osasuna at Nou Camp.
Although Lionel Messi scored a wonderful free-kick, it was not enough to give them victory at night let alone deny their celebrations to Real Madrid, as Osasuna scored a 94th-minute winner
Elsewhere, the chances of Kenneth Omeruo and Chidozie Awaziem surviving relegation from the LaLiga got a boost as their team Legannes secured a crucial 2-0 win away to Athletic Bilbao.
Legannes will need to defeat Real Madrid in Sunday’s final round of games to get the chance to avoid relegation.
