Edo Politics: Ize-Iyamu wins APC primary

Osagie Ize-Iyamu has been proclaimed the winner of All Progressive Congress (APC) governorship primary in Edo.

Mr Ize-Iyamu, who has the support of APC ‘s embattled national chairman, Adams Oshiomhole, has defeated two other aspirants – Pius Odubu and Osaze Obazee – to win the primary.

The direct primary was officially conducted in the Edo state’s 18 local governments.

In the result declared by the Imo State Governor, Hope Uzodinma, Mr Ize-Iyamu scored 27,833 votes while Mr Odubu, the former deputy governor of the state, came second with 3,776.

Mr Obazee secured over 2,000 votes, the chairman of the party’s primary committee, Mr Izodinma said.

Mr Ize-Iyamu, who was the 2016 opposition PDP contender for governorship, will now fly the APC flag in the September governorship race.
