On Sunday, the Isreali government approved the appointment of Prof. Chezy Levy as the new Health Ministry Director-General.
“I am sure he will be of great help in leading the system in the challenging period ahead of us, especially in dealing with the coronavirus,” Health Minister Yuli Edelstein said.
Levy is Barzilai Medical Centre’s medical director. He succeeded the outgoing managing director Moshe Bar Siman Tov.
Since 2012, Levy, a specialist in surgery, has been head of the Barzilai Medical Centre.
During the First Lebanon War , he served as a doctor and participated in several medical humanitarian missions around the world including Kosovo, Zaire, Kenya, Macedonia, Turkey and Rwanda.
He led the creation of the fortified underground emergency department Barzilai, which is considered one of the world’s most technologically advanced and protected.
Levy also has considerable expertise in emergency medicine.
“The state of Israel is in a very tough battle against the coronavirus,” Levy said. “This is just one part of the challenges that face the healthcare system.”
