Shopkeepers in the town of Kabarore in the district of Gatsibo are in panic mode following ongoing search for fake products, expired products and other fraudulent merchandise on shelves.
Officials from the Rwanda Revenue Authority, investigators from the Rwanda Investigations Bureau and members of the District Administration Security Support Organ (Dasso) are joining Gatsibo District Mayor, Richard Gasana, on a mission to eradicate the dumping of banned goods.
The Mayor and his masked team move from shop to shop and scrutinize each item on the shelves at random.
“They are checking for expiry dates, S-marks and authenticity of products we are selling,” a trader in Kabarore town told reporters on condition of anonymity.
This operation code named Operation FAGIA-OPSONV has been prepared by Rwanda Investigations Bureau.
