Rwanda records 8 more Covid-19 cases

Rwanda reported 8 new Covid-19 cases and 7 recoveries on Sunday 7 June, bringing the tally of confirmed cases to 439 of which 290 recovered.

The new cases are related to clusters in Rusizi and Rusumo according to the Ministry of Health. This information was made available on the verified Twitter handle of  Rwandan’s Ministry of Health, @RwandaHealth

“The new cases relate to the Rusizi and Rusumo clusters, they have been isolated and contacts traced,” reads the ministry’s statement.

The most recent update was from 1,318 sample tests. The country has done 76,331 Covid-19 sample tests in total.

Rwanda has reported 2 deaths since the outbreak in mid-March.

Among the steps introduced to curb the spread of this pandemic in other areas are the complete lockdown imposed on the busy city of Rusizi, Kamembe.

In addition, Rwanda is also one of the East African countries that has implemented a regional electronic cargo and driver monitoring system that is expected to prevent the rise of community Covid-19 cases that can be triggered by cross-border truck drivers.
