According to the recent players report, AS Kigali Women players went on strike.
Some of the players who prefer not to be named said they decided to boycott training sessions because they did not receive their two-month salaries.
“We are demanding for our wages for the last two month on top of the bonuses for thirteen victories as promised by the club management,” two players said when interviewed on Tuesday.
They won’t compete in North America next season on Thursday in a drastic effort to set up a single professional league that is economically feasible.
The women’s club sponsored by Kigali City dominated women’s soccer, winning the fifth women’s football title last year.
The boycott is said to be linked and triggered by the economic legal disturbances between the club and Grace Nyinawumuntu, a soccer coach who served the club for seven years, according to reliable sources.
The club suspended Nyinawumuntu the former she- Amavubi for two months early in January 2017 over what was described as “Indiscipline” and allegations of division between players being created.
After serving her suspension, she was then fired by the management ; the club announced that they had taken the choice after an inquiry had been carried out.
In April 2018, the Nyarugenge High Court ordered topflight women’s league side to compensate her Rwf 40 m (estimated & 47,000) for misrepresentation and other allegations.
The club later appealed the judgment as she argued that she was not granted a fair hearing for the case against AS Kigali squad and was rejected without due process.
Efforts to contact the management of the club for comment were not feasible because the two contacted authorities said they were not in a position to discuss the matter.
