XPhone powered by Blockchain in Rwanda

Crypto markets seemed to have attracted considerable interest from people — both from those fresh to the word as  well as veterans who have further delved into digital cash companies and companies. With Libra peeking out the corner, some aspire to substitute traditional currencies issued by standard government to express the new means of transaction and trade. Pundi X, a Singapore-based cryptocurrency business, introduced XPhone in Kigali, Rwanda,  a blockchain-powered smartphone.

“ XPhone, claimed to be the first smartphone in the continent powered by blockchain technology, was unveiled at  the GSMA Mobile 360 Africa. Zac Cheah, CEO of Pundi X, also declared:

“The XPhone allows everyone to make a phone call on the blockchain.”

But what does blockchain-powering imply? Pundi X clarified that XPhone is implementing a fresh type of blockchain embodiment via a new  operating system called Function X instead of familiar,  frequent operating systems such as iOS or Android.   Users are connected to the blockchain with XPhone, which means all of their digital  activities are transmitted via blockchain, ranging from calls, text messages, browsing,  or even photography.

In other words, Pundi X’s XPhone demonstrates that the importance of blockchain technology is emphasized not  only by cryptocurrencies (well, most often, that is), but also by becoming feasible alternatives to issues of service delivery involving peer-to-peer affiliations. Users are in control of their information in this respect. For example, in  a situation of Rwanda, you would not be able to access your data if you had an XPhone, MTN or Airtel.

“We keep innovating the ways to harness the power of blockchain technology to facilitate financial inclusion. At Pundi X, we want to make digital currencies to be more accessible to more people across the borders and further increase the value of digital currencies for all.”He said.

In addition, thanks to its open- source nature, XPhone is accessible for everyone to tinker and create apps. The firm also hopes to achieve its original stage,by the end of 2019, 5,000 telephones will be in manufacturing, but this concept does not imply that they will not look to partner with other companies in the future.
