Former Rwandan international Pierre Marshal Kwizera has been assigned by GISAGARA Volleyball Club as their fresh head coach on a two-year contract.
Augustin Ntivuguruzwa, the president of the club, verified the progression to Sunday Sport on Saturday.
The agreement he wrote on Friday will see him up to the end of the 2020/2021 season with the two-time champions.
Kwizera, 32, becomes Gisagara’s first permanent head coach since January when Dominique Ntawangundi was fired after just five months in the job, reportedly for bad outcomes.
“It is done. Marshal (Kwizera) is our new coach for the next two years,” Ntivuguruzwa told this publication. “His vast knowledge and experience in local volleyball is a great asset.”
Considered one of his generation’s finest and most consistent players, Kwizera will direct the sponsored side of the Gisagara District through the upcoming Carre d’As tournament, a competition contested by the top four teams of the latest league season.
Carre d’As this year will see Rwanda Energy Group (REG), Gisagara, UTB, and IPRC-East champions competing for the title of the post-season tournament.
After a brilliant 12 year global career, Kwizera, who was mainly an underused replacement as REG beat Gisagara in the playoffs finals to clinch their first league title in June, retired from domestic team mid-2017.
In addition to REG, where he spent his last two seasons in competitive volleyball, Gahini, Kibungo VC, Umubano Blue Tigers, Kigali Volleyball Club, APR, Lycee de Nyanza, Rayon Sports and UNIK also performed earlier.
Kwizera, who also enjoyed one (2013) season with Algerian side OMK El Milia, won the league title with Gisagara in 2016-17 before joining REG in 2017.
