Nigeria’s Super Eagles gets a familiar foe at the Round of 16

The Indomitable Lions of Cameroon emerged in the current Africa Cup of Nations as the Round of 16 rivals for the Super Eagles of Nigeria.

Madagascar beat the Eagles to the top place in Group B, which meant they would face Group F’s second-placed squad.

While Cameroon dictated the pace in Group F before Wednesday’s final set of matches, the Lions fell to second place after the Benin Republic maintained a goal-less draw and Ghana secured a 2-0 victory over Equatorial Guinea.

In the group stage, both Ghana and Cameroon accumulated five points.

Although the Super Eagles trounced Cameroon on the way to qualifying for the 2018 Russia World Cup, in previous AFCON editions, the Lions are strong opponents for Nigeria.

The Lions emerged victorious in the last three matches at the Nations Cup between Cameroon and Nigeria.

The defending champions are Cameroon, which has five AFCON titles compared to the three of Nigeria.
