A total number of one hundred
(100) samples were collected and analysed. The result obtained from this study
showed that blood groups A, B, AB and O were seen in the sample of the
population. Blood group O was found to be the most frequent 50 (50%) among the
study population while blood group AB was least prevalent 3 (3%). The prevalence
of blood group A was 21 (21%) and blood group B 26 (26%). Table 4.1 show the
frequency distribution of ABO blood group among indigenes of Lagos-Igbide in
Isoko South Local Government Area, Delta State.

In Rhesus blood grouping,
96 (96%) of the study population were Rh D positive while 4 (4%) were Rh D
negative. Table 4.2 shows the frequency distribution of Rh blood groups. Table
4.3, 4.4, 4.5 and 4.6 show the frequency distribution of the ABO blood groups
which are A, B, AB and O respectively and their Rhesus blood group based on
gender.

The results showed that
there is a little significant difference in the frequency of blood group
distribution among male and female indigenes of Lagos-Igbide community.
Prevalence of ABO blood group was significantly higher among females (13%, 16%
and 57%) compared to (8%, 10% and 13%) for males respectively for blood group
A, B and O. but the males for blood group AB was higher than female with 2% and
1% respectively. Similarly, Rhesus blood group distribution was compared based
on gender. Women had a higher prevalence of Rh positive and negative group
compared to men which is (64% positive, 3% negative) and (32% positive, 1%
negative) respectively. Among the female subject one (1) was A negative, B
Negative, O Negative and none was AB negative; as twelve (12) were A positive,
fifteen (15) were B positive, thirty-six (36) were O positive, one (1) was AB
positive. Moreover, among the male subjects, one (1) was A negative, none was B
negative, O negative and AB negative; also seven (7) were A positive, ten (10)
were B positive, thirteen (13) were O positive and two (2) were AB positive.
