1. Registered Nurse
Initial Assignment: Integrated Rehabilitation Unit (IRU), Schizophrenia Program
Salary Range: $29.36 to $42.44 per hour

The Schizophrenia Program is currently seeking a full-time Registered Nurse to work in Integrated Rehabilitation Unit (IRU). As a member of a multidisciplinary team, you will provide client-centred psychiatric and general nursing care and ensure security, safety and the CNO standards of nursing practice are maintained. Using a primary nursing model, you will be expected to perform assessments, develop, implement and evaluate the interdisciplinary plan of client care for clients with Schizophrenia. You will liaise with other services in the Schizophrenia Program and community agencies to coordinate care for clients. You will be able to work with clients from diverse populations; contribute to program development; provide education support and supervision to students and participate the research activities of the program. Your skills include the ability to make behavioral observations, mental status assessments, monitoring patient’s response to pharmaceutical and care interventions, documentation and ongoing communication with other team members. You will have sound knowledge of, crisis intervention, psychosocial rehabilitation, severe and persistent mental illness and schizophrenia. Your strengths include an ability to perform assessments, develop, implement and evaluate interdisciplinary client centered care plans. These positions involve shift rotation and weekend work. This position requires days and nights rotation and is located at Queen Street site.

Qualifications:
You must be registered with or eligible for registration as a Registered Nurse with the College of Nurses of Ontario and possess a current B.C.L.S. (CPR). Preference will be given to candidates who possess, or are currently pursuing a B.Sc.N and/or CNA certification in Psychiatric/Mental Health Nursing. You will possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills to enabling you to develop the Nurse- Client relationship and work within a collaborative and diverse inter-disciplinary team. Effective leadership, decision-making, organizational and problem solving skills are required. You have demonstrated ability to intervene effectively in clinical situations requiring the management of disturbed behaviour. Psychiatric nursing experience with individuals with mental illness and/or addictions is an asset. The ability to work with clients of diverse cultural and social backgrounds is necessary. Computer literacy is required. Bilingualism (French/English) or proficiency in a second language would be an asset.

Nurse Educator (2 positions)
Initial Assignment: Schizophrenia Program
Salary Range: $31.80 – $45.96 per hour

Position Description:
Reporting to the Administrative Director and Clinical Director and working collaboratively with the program’s Advanced Practice Nurse, you will be a leader in contributing to the quality of client care through your roles as Nurse Educator. The majority of your function will be devoted to education and leadership activities. You will be responsible for advancing direct practice on the units and throughout the Program in the areas of individual, family, group therapy, and fostering the development of an efficient, effective, and client-focused interdisciplinary activities. In collaboration with the unit managers, you will have responsibility for assessing the clinical skills and performance of unit level staff, while actively mentoring, coaching and teaching, fostering staff development in the areas of assessment, formulation & treatment planning and development of the interdisciplinary plan of care. You will provide clinical support to front-line nursing staff related to best practices in health and mental health care of individuals with schizophrenia, patient safety initiatives such as safe medication practices and clinical assessments; and the orientation of students and new employees to the program. You will work one-to-one or with small groups, teaching front-line nursing and other clinical staff. In this capacity you will also identify learning needs, while assisting the staff in the application of knowledge/theory to practice. Your role will include, in collaboration with unit managers, some responsibilities for recruitment and performance management of unit-level staff, monitoring of clinical quality improvement outcome measures; program planning and site redevelopment activities; working with nursing students; and in program research and policy activities. These positions are predominately located at 1001 Queen Street West.

Qualifications:
The successful candidates must be registered with the College of Nurses of Ontario and must possess a current CPR/BCLS certificate. Five years experience within the mental health field is essential, particularly in the area of schizophrenia, as is demonstrated experience in individual counseling, psychosocial support, and facilitating psycho-educational groups. A BScN and computer literacy are also required. Previous teaching experience is essential. CNA certification in psychiatric/mental health nursing would be considered an asset. The incumbents will have demonstrated ability to intervene effectively in challenging clinical situations requiring the management of disturbed behaviour, as well as effective decision-making and problem solving skills. You will be highly organized, and possess excellent communication skills to facilitate working within a collaborative, multidisciplinary team environment. You will also have the ability to foster and create a learning environment, and to motivate and challenge, and have a demonstrated ability to work with diverse populations. Bilingualism (French/English) or proficiency in a second language would be an asset.
