The North York Harvest Food Bank is the primary food bank for northern
Toronto, distributing two million pounds of food annually through
sixty neighbourhood programs. An independent, charitable organization,
we envision a community where all members are able to meet their food
needs. Our mission is to engage our community in meeting the food
needs of northern Toronto by providing dignified food assistance,
education and long-term food solutions.

connections. We aim to be more than just a food bank, providing people
with multiple food access points and building strong community
partnerships.
Position Summary:
North York Harvest has an extraordinary opportunity for an engaged and
social justice-oriented candidate who is passionate about food
banking, food security and social justice issues. We seek a highly
effective individual to provide strong leadership and management for
our community engagement department in accordance with our vision,
mission, values, and strategic plan.
A key member of North York Harvest’s leadership team, the Director,
Community Engagement plays a lead role in visioning, planning,
implementing and managing strategic direction for existing program
delivery, new innovative programming, community relations and
partnership development. This is a full time position, reporting to
the Executive Director.

Key Responsibilities:
• Manages in accordance with overall strategic direction of the
organization and actively participates in evolving the strategy
• Supervises activities at NYH’s three community food banks in
delivering dignified, empowering and connected services.
• Oversees transformational change process across North York Harvest’s
agency network
• Designs and implements effective community food solutions
initiatives, including through granting opportunities and strategic
partnerships
• Cultivates and stewards community relationships
• Represents North York Harvest at neighbourhood and other network
tables and actively liaises with other partners
• Stays informed about issues and trends that may affect participant
access to programs, social policy, and food supply
• Implements program evaluation framework and develops monitoring tools
• Oversees program budgets and contributes to the development of
overall organizational budget
• Regularly prepares and delivers reports to the Board of Directors
• Supervises and contributes to a supportive and inclusive team of
staff and volunteers
• Maintains active, professional and cordial relationships with stakeholders
Qualifications
• Post-secondary education or equivalent combination of training and
professional experience in the non-profit sector
• At least 5 years of experience in progressive roles
• Demonstrated leadership experience working in a high performance,
team environment, including experience managing staff and volunteers
in a supportive manner
• Stellar communicator in the English language: written and spoken
• Understanding of granting environment and solid experience with grant writing
• Ability to navigate a wide range of stakeholder relationships,
demonstrating mature judgment
• Proficient at fostering an inclusive work environment where staff
and volunteers are motivated to contribute their diverse skills and
approaches.
• Commitment to social justice principles and a solid grasp of current
trends in the food security and anti-poverty domains.
• Exposure to food banks or community food programs sector a plus
• Knowledge and understanding of systemic poverty issues
• Familiarity with northern Toronto neighbourhoods an asset
• Strong problem solving and analytical skills
• High level of computer proficiency
• Adept at time management, planning, prioritizing, multi-tasking and
follow-through
• Ability to work evenings and weekends, as required.
