Slow Train Farm,Apprentice Jobs in Canada

Position: Apprentice
Type: apprenticeship with tenting, food, stipend (see below)
Organization: Slow Train Farm
Location: Williams Lake, (between Kamloops & Prince George) BC

We are seeking an apprentice for the 2016 growing season.

We are a small, certified orga

nic family farm. We grow roughly an acre of vegetable
crops and staple foods for the family as well as crops for sale at the Quesnel
and Williams Lake Farmers Markets. Our time is split between garden tasks and
ongoing construction projects using cobwood and earthbag techniques. This year
we will be building a small cabin to house our annual apprentice and doing
plastering work on other buildings on the site.

As our buildings are currently unfinished, we require apprentices to sleep in a
tent. Apprentices share all of the facilities on the site and eat with the
family and crew on a daily basis. We use a compost-heated shower and outdoor
composting toilet. We use wood cook stoves, inside and out. Our electricity is
provided by solar and wind, which also provides us with water from our well. We
have two young children who are very present in daily life. Ideally we like to
host people who are inspired, motivated and wanting to homestead or start a
small farm operation in the future.

We provide a stipend of $400 per month for this position. We also accept applications
for volunteers who may not be able to commit for a longer period. Interns work
along side us for the duration of the term, which is May through October. Our
family eats organic food, much of it from our garden in the summer and fall. We
eat no GMOs. Unfortunately we cannot accommodate vegan diets.
