Abstract
This
research work was based on poor housing and its implication on the aged in
Afiesere community, Ughelli North Local Government Area, Delta State. Four (4)
study objectives were drawn which includes to find out if poor housing exists
in Afiesere community, to investigate the health implication on inhabitants of
Afiesere, to find out if there are ways of improving housing in Afiesere and to
find out if housing in Afiesere community lacks standard sanitary conveniences.
The descriptive survey method was employed for the research study. The
stratified and simple random sampling techniques were used to obtain a sample
size of one hundred and forty (140) from a target population of seven thousand
(7,000) persons. Data were collected through the use of structured
questionnaire and interview and data collected were analyzed using frequency
distribution tables, percentages and chi-square (x2) statistical
method. The findings of the study showed that poor housing exists in Afiesere
community and that there are ways of improving housing in Afiesere. It is
recommended that people should be educated on the importance of proper housing
sanitation and adequate supervision should be carried out by Health Officers
before and after the erection of building.
