Water For People 3221 –Regional Director (Africa)
Water For People is seeking an exceptional
individual to be
individual to be
come the next Regional Director of Africa. This role is
ultimately responsible for managing all aspects of Water For People’s work on
the continent. Leading a team of leaders, the appointed candidate will ensure
that Water For People’s 2017-2021 Strategic Plan is successfully implemented
while providing support to Country Directors as they deliver work in-country
and develop country plans that are aligned with the global strategy and
policies.
Operationally, the Regional Director is responsible for ensuring there
is effective management of resources (funds, people and equipment) and open
information flows required for resource mobilization and fundraising, as well
as guaranteeing that offices follow appropriate systems for financial, program
and human resource management. This role also leads on scale and learning
initiatives and manages a wide range of external relationships, in particular
those with remit across the region. Importantly, this person will be key in the
role as liaison between Water For People HQ in Denver, CO and the three country
programs of Uganda, Rwanda, and Malawi. The position will be based in Uganda,
Rwanda, or Malawi. UK nationals who prefer to be based in the UK and are
willing to travel significantly to serve in the RD Africa role will also be
considered. Applicants who are local nationals of the countries where Water For
People work (Malawi, Rwanda, and Uganda) are encouraged to apply.
The successful candidate will have a track record of success in program
management with an emphasis on water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH) in Africa
as well as an understanding of technical, social and institutional issues
relating to WASH specific advocacy, education and community development in
Africa. Ideally, the candidate will have a deep understanding of and experience
with: community, public and private finance in enabling service delivery;
market-based approaches to deliver services and development of entrepreneurs;
and replication and scaling-up of businesses (including social enterprises) and
public-private partnerships.
