Knowledge of sickle cell disease among married couples from age 24 – 45 years in Ozoro Community in Isoko North Local Government Area of Delta State

Abstract
The research is aimed at
identifying the knowledge of sickle cell disease among married couples from age
24 – 45 years, in Ozoro Community of Isoko North Local Government Area of Delta
State. This study was carried out to enlighten married couples on the effect of
sickle cell disease on their future children and the nation at large. This
study also identifies ways the disease can be prevented. It will also serve as
a source of literature for further studies. An explorative, non-experimental
design was employed in conducting this study. Questionnaire was used to collect
data from the respondent. The result of the study shows that majority of
married couple have an idea of sickle cell disease and the way it can be
prevented. Recommendation was made to intending couples, the government and the
provision of screening material and manpower to run them. Suggestion was made
to the government to enact law, that will ensure that all intending couples go
for a genotype test and genetic counseling.
