The effects of malaria on pregnant women in Government Hospital Agbarho, Delta State

Abstract
This research work was
carried out to determine the effect of malaria on pregnant women in Government
Hospital Agbarho. The purpose of this work is to enlighten pregnant women on
the danger, that malaria poses on their health and the risk on the unborn
child. To ascertain their knowledge on the causes of malaria, To know the
various way of preventing the occurrence of malaria and To determine the
relationship of malaria on the foetus (baby) in-utero as regards to induced
abortion.

On completion of this research project, it will be helpful in the
following: (i) It will assist the government including policy makers to come
out with strategy put in place to reduce the incidence of malaria in pregnancy
(ii) It will assist health professionals on the need to attract health delivery
system in rendering health care services. A descriptive survey of
non-experimental design was employed in conducting this study. Questionnaire were
used to collect data from respondents which was carefully presented analyzed
and discussed. From the research work it has been revealed that malaria in
pregnancy lead to great danger as it put the life of both mother and fetus at
stake. In conclusion the researcher is soliciting that health professional
especially midwives should improve in the provision of health care delivery
services to pregnant women. Health education should begin from the first day at
ante-natal clinic till she puts to bed. Health education, and the use of
insecticide treated net taking of prophylactic drug, clearing of breeding
places bushes and proper disposal empty tin. Recommendation and suggestion for
further study were made to general public on how the government can improve the
health care centre in other to prevent and reduce the incidence of malaria in
pregnancy.
