SOS Children’s
Villages Malawi is a non-governmental social development organization which
started its operations in Malawi in1991after its first establishment in 1949 by
Hermann Gmeiner in Austria, operating in 133 Countries with a mission of
building families for children in need, helping them to shape their own f

utures
and sharing in the development of their communities. SOS Children’s Villages
Malawi is currently operating in 4 SOS Children’s Villages Program in Blantyre,
Lilongwe, Mzuzu and Ngabu. SOS Children’s Villages Malawi supports children who
have lost parental care and those at risk of losing parental care through its
Child Development Program to develop within a caring family environment to
their full potential as contributing members of their respective societies.

Tasks and
Responsibilities:

The National ERP
Coordinator will be expected to lead SOS Children’s Village Malawi’s Emergency
Response Project implementation, monitoring, evaluation and contextual analysis
of the food shortage situation in Malawi. S/he will be responsible for regular
project reporting to the National Director and to donor, and must ensure effective
coordination of project activities with the relevant Local Government
departments and address other emerging needs in consultation with the National
Director. National ERP Coordinator will be expected to ensure technical
collaboration with the National Family Strengthening Program Coordinator and
will supervise four ERP officers in Mzuzu, Blantyre, Ngabu and Lilongwe.

In June 2016, SOS
Children’s Villages Malawi launched an emergency appeal to address the crisis
of food shortage in Malawi, especially in the four program areas of Mzuzu,
Blantyre, Ngabu and Lilongwe. The program will support to provide food aid to
vulnerable identifies in the four locations according to the developed project
proposal from January to March 2017. It is in that context that SOS Children’s
Villages Malawi invites suitably qualified candidates to fill the position of
National ERP Coordinator.

Detailed roles and
responsibilities include;

  • Represent
    the organization’s emergency program at national level and ensure a
    positive collaboration and working relationship with government
    institutions, local administration levels and other organizations in
    emergency response networks.
  • Responsible
    for the implementation of the emergency activities, closely monitor and
    evaluate their evolution, final results and achievements to ensure that
    objectives are achieved.
  • Responsible
    for monitoring and analyzing the emergency situation related to food
    shortage and floods across the country through established contacts with
    key persons/institutions.
  • Represent
    the organization’s emergency program at national level and ensure a
    positive collaboration and working relationship with government
    institutions, local administration levels and other organizations in
    emergency response networks.
  • Actively
    participate and coordinate in the various drought response clusters with
    NGOs, UN agencies and government offices.
  • Conduct
    field visits at all locations to assess the situation of food shortage in
    the country.
  • Lead on
    situation analysis and program proposal development.
  • Overall
    Plan, organize supervise all procurement process according to SOS
    Procurement Guidelines.
  • Lead,
    manage and motivate the team, ensuring that they have clear objectives,
    work-plans and receive meaningful and regular feedback on their performance.
  • Build
    the capacity of National office and location staff in emergency response
    programming through creation of emergency response technical teams.
  • Responsible
    for organizing training of project staff in use of new technologies (LMMS)
    and supervise the use of these technologies on the field.
  • Guarantee
    a rational use of means and resources to carry out the project activities
    and ensuring field staff comply with accepted integrity and compliance
    principles.
  • Ensure
    all project activities are conducted in accordance with agreed work-plan
    and proposal.
  • Coordinate
    the process of development beneficiary criteria, updating and verification
    of beneficiary lists, sending updates to donor, through the National
    Director.
  • Responsible
    to ensure information flow and reporting to and from National Director,
    IOR and IO – Global Emergency Response (GER) Unit and Project
    Coordinators. Work in close collaboration with other members of the SOS
    Children’s Villages’ team, sharing information and designing and
    implementing program activities.
  • Ensure
    adherence to SOS Children’s Villages’ policies such as the Code of
    Conduct, Child Safeguarding Standards and others as well as the minimum
    standards of humanitarian relief (ICRC Code of Conduct, Sphere, HAP).

Requirements:

• University degree
in Disaster Management or Development Studies, Social Sciences, Rural
Development or a related field.
• Minimum 3 years of experience in humanitarian aid and/or development work in
a Non-government organization. • Experience and knowledge of emergency project
management including emergency needs assessment, project design, development
and implementation • High level analytical skills and ability to think
strategically and implement • Excellent organizational and problem solving
skills • Strong interpersonal and communication skills • Competent to work with
significant levels of autonomy and as a team player • Ability at being flexible
and adapt to changing situations • Excellent English language skills verbal and
in written • Knowledge of MS Office (Excel, PowerPoint, etc.)
