The
Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure plans transportation networks,
provides transportation services and

infrastructure, develops and implements
transportation policies, leads emergency management and administers related
acts and regulations as well as federal-provincial funding programs, including
the Building Canada Fund.

Emergency
Management BC (EMBC) is the key agency in government for emergency management
activities. EMBC provides executive coordination, strategic planning, and
multi-agency facilitation and strives to develop effective working
relationships in an increasingly complex emergency management environment. The
overall purpose of EMBC is to increase life safety and resiliency for
individuals and communities throughout British Columbia.
EMBC
provides leadership through a number of programs, including the following:
  • Emergency
    Management
  • Flood
    Protection and Planning
  • Emergency
    Management Training & Exercise Program
  • Office
    of the Fire Commissioner
The
Assistant Deputy Minister, EMBC is the executive responsible for all aspects of
the development and operation of the provincial integrated emergency structure
responsible for emergency and disaster planning, mitigation, response and recovery
in the province.
Qualifications
for this leadership role include a record of success in extensive,
progressively more responsible executive management roles in a complex policy
and operational environment, together with experience as a senior executive in
a performance-based organization. Key to this role is the importance of
critical decision making in emergency, under stressful high risk and high
profile situations, and the ability to lead change in a complex setting,
including a high degree of vision, and tact and diplomacy when communicating
with the media (local, national, international) and when representing the
organization.
