Ministry of Transportation. This is your opportunity to lead a team of
environmental specialists to develop high-profile policies and programs with a
focus on sustainable multimodal transportation, waste and excess soil management,
fisheries and wetlands protection, environmental bill of rights and climate
change to support the ministry plan, design and operate infrastructure balanced
with the protection of the natural environment.

What can I expect to do in this role?
In this challenging role, you will:
• plan, develop and lead environment policy and planning for the ministry in
context of transportation issues
• provide strategic analysis and advice on environmental issues as they relate
to transportation activities
• provide team leadership to policy staff to ensure planning, design and
transportation activities are compliant with legislation and aligned with
government policy and priorities
• provide strategic advice and recommendations to senior management on current
and emerging issues
• plan and develop policies, practices and projects including research
investigations to support environmental policy directions
• conduct analysis and develop strategies and proposals to promote ministry
environmental policy objectives

How do I qualify?
Leadership and Project Management Skills:

You have:
• demonstrated knowledge of project management techniques to effectively lead
projects, manage resources and control expenditures
• demonstrated knowledge of program analysis, risk management techniques and
issues management principles to assess the impact of changes and identify and
ensure effective proactive solutions
• demonstrated experience and can provide effective leadership to staff in the
development of environmental policies, studies and projects including providing
guidance on the preparation of work plans, determining staff requirements for
projects, determining priorities, assigning and reviewing work, monitoring
performance and providing technical guidance

Policy and Planning Skills:

You have:
• demonstrated knowledge of provincial and federal environmental laws and
policies, planning and government policy development processes and related
government policies, programs and strategic direction to develop effective
environmental policy initiatives
• planning skills to ensure that policies are developed and implemented and
effectively identify and assess impacts of issues
• demonstrated planning, research and analytical skills to conduct business
case analyses, ensure the development of policies and provide advice and
expertise

Analytical and Problem-Solving Skills:
You have:
• demonstrated analytical skills to recommend potential solutions to
environmental planning and policy issues and develop alternative options
• effective analytical skills to identify issues and trends, assess impacts and
recommend strategic policy direction
• demonstrated experience balancing multiple priorities and objectives

Communication and Interpersonal Skills:
You have:
• demonstrated communication and presentation skills to provide effective
briefings to senior management
• have consultation and facilitation skills and have applied these skills to
establish internal/external relationships, promote agreements with key
stakeholders and create consensus on competing interests
• have demonstrated experience in developing technical and policy related
reports, correspondence and presentations

Salary range: $72,750.00 – $105,740.00 per year
