Research Scientist –
Karonga Prevention Study

The Karonga Prevention Study (KPS) has been conducting medical research in
Malawi for 30 years.  The programme is now a partnership between London
School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine and College of Medicine and
collaboration closely with the Ministry of Health.

We are seeking a Graduate Scientist to assi
st in the research in Karonga
district.  He/she will be based in Chilumba and will be responsible for
implementation of research studies and the day-to-day management of field
activities and associated data. The post holder will be expected to contribute
actively in analysis and preparing publications.  He/she will be supported
and supervised by the Karonga Epidemiologists and Scientific Programme
Managers.

Ability to use a computer including MS Word, Access (or similar), Attention to
detail, Ability to supervise staff, Good spoken English and other relevant
local languages, Ability to summarise information and provide progress reports,
Good oral and written communication skills

Bachelors Degree in Social Science, Demography, Statistics, Public Health or
related field, Master of Science in Epidemiology, Statistics, Public Health or
related field will be added advantage, Experience in large and complex data
sets and environmental and personal exposure monitoring essential

To supervise, plan, coordinate and monitor day to day field work of the KPS
including scientific and health and safety aspects, To assist in data audit and
routine dissemination of necessary data to the appropriate Ethics Committees,
To assist in analysis and writing up of projects for publication, To supervise
and organise the day to day coding and entry of relevant study data and solving
of queries relating to this data, To ensure good representation of KPS and
harmonious relations with health services and the wider community
