Position
Summary
Since its
inception in 2005, Inshuti Mu Buzima has partnered with the Government of
Rwanda to deliver dramatic gains in population health, equity and prosperity in
previously underserved rural communities. The Executive Director ensures that
we deliver on our programmatic commitments and contribute to improving health
care outcomes in Rwanda. The Executive Director is responsible for ensuring
that the organization effectively partners with the Ministry of Health and
other implementing partners. The role demands equal parts internal management
and external relationship management, and requires effective collaboration with
the Government of Rwanda from the local to the national level. In recent years,
IMB has expanded its impact in Rwanda largely through our ability to leverage
the Global Health Delivery Partnership (GHDP), a consortium comprising Partners
In Health, the Department of Global Health and Social Medicine at Harvard
Medical School, and the Division of Global Health Equity at Brigham and Women’s
Hospital (BWH). Harvard-affiliated institutions are the largest partners in the
Rwanda Human Resources for Health Program, and through a large BWH-led
implementation research partnership, IMB’s research platform now includes over
30 active research projects.
Leveraging
these academic partnerships has allowed IMB and our public sector partners to
transform three IMB-supported districts into healthcare delivery innovation and
learning hubs, bringing successful innovations to national scale. In recent
years our total annual investments in Rwanda have increased largely due to
growth of GHDP engagement, and now total nearly $20 million per year. As
Rwanda’s largest implementing partner in the health sector, IMB is responsible
for all GHDP activities in the country, whether or not implemented directly
through IMB. In-country oversight and coordination of GHDP-related personnel
and programs is a major focus for the Executive Director. In order to balance
this work with the need to continually improve our implementation, the ED works
closely with, and delegates day-to-day management authority to, a strong
Managing Director.
