Spinrite is the largest producer and marketer of craft yarn in Canada and one of the largest in the United States. Spinrite has approximately 450 employees at its fully integrated manufacturing and distribution centre in Listowel, Ontario, and its design studio in Toronto.

Web Developer

Spinrite is currently seeking to fill the position of Web Developer at its head office in Listowel.

Reporting to the IT Manager, the Web Developer is responsible for web design of the corporate web presence on the internet and other web-based applications. This includes using specialized software tools to design, develop, and produce web pages, as well as working to add additional multimedia content and other web content as required. The Web Developer will also work directly with project stakeholders to ensure web-based applications meet business and user requirements by coding new web applications, as well as supporting current solutions.

Duties and Responsibilities
– Strive to follow the SDLC approach/methodology to web based solution provision.
– Set coding standards or adheres to current coding standards on existing content.
– Design, create, and deploy web-based multimedia content for external and internal sites.
– Develop and deploy web interfaces including layout design and concepts.
– Create web site development plans to determine timelines and estimates for completing web projects.

Revise as appropriate to meet changing needs and requirements.
– Interview stakeholders and gather functional requirements; incorporate functional specs into web applications.
– Contribute as a team member on project teams and develop relationships with other team members.
– Deliver, or participate in, informative and well-organized presentations.
– Procure or create multimedia content and other web design elements.
– Perform search engine registrations for corporate web sites or work with 3rd party solutions.
– Ensure that web-based applications are optimized for third-party search engines and tools.
– Work with web marketing team to develop and maintain methods of analytics for our existing presence on the internet and other web metrics.
– Create and code fully tested database-driven web sites to ensure functionality is as expected. Effectively employing many different database design techniques.
– Identify system deficiencies and recommend solutions to update web sites, intranets, extranets, etc. as required.
– Upload and download files via file transfer protocol (FTP).
– Set up web site hosting agreements, either in-house or third party.
– Create legible documentation for all aspects regarding the design and deployment of web-based applications.
– Ensure that material on the web site is accessible to all groups including those with disabilities.
– Stay informed of existing and emerging internet and web technologies.
– Where necessary, write and edit web copy.
– Provide technical graphics assistance to production personnel, content authors, publishers, clients, and/or vendors/service providers.
– May lead and facilitate project teams

Skills and Education
– University degree in computer science or information systems is preferred and/or 3 – 5 years of direct work experience on web production and development initiatives
– Proficient communication skills. Verbal or written.
– Proficiency in at least one structured programming language. Preferably PHP.
– Understand the benefits of the various programming languages
– Ability to create effective XSL style sheets
– Ability to read, create, and understand XML schemas
– Experience with HTML, CSS, and PHP
– Experience with web development platforms and languages, such as ASP, ASP.NET, VB.NET, JavaScript, and SQL.
– Understanding of web architectures, user-centric design, and usability testing
– Experience building multiple web sites, including e-commerce sites.
– Knowledge of color theory, layout, and design principles.
– Basic working knowledge of web servers (e.g. Apache, IIS)
– Knowledge of browser compatibility problems for all platforms and major browser types
– Experience with search engine optimization, banners, and pay-per-click advertising
– Basic working knowledge of database-driven web site design
– Skilled in the use of Macromedia Studio MX Suite, Adobe Creative Suite, DVD Studio Pro, Adobe Premier, Microsoft Office, video and audio editing software, and other applications
– Strong knowledge of page layout and photographic requirements
