CHF International Consultant – WATSAN Market Assessment Job Vacancy in Liberia

CHF International is seeking a qualified individual to undertake a Water & Sanitation related market assessment in Liberia for the following three key products that its WASH program will be developing:

1. SanPlat latrine Slabs;
2. Hand Pump spare parts; and,
3. Handwashing stations (Tippy Taps)

Objectives of the Consultancy
The aim of this consultancy is to undertake a market assessment that will directly feed into a marketing strategy for each of the products and guide the development of all related marketing materials.

The consultant will
1. Assess the current market for the above listed products and services including both the supply and demand sides. This includes all necessary household, private sector/industry interviews and visits.
2. Assess the communication channels for the products in each of the 3 counties. This includes identification and gathering detailed information on potential channels and methods for communication.
3. Synthesize the research results and finalize the development of a marketing strategy for all 3 products (including an illustrative activity and M & E plan)

The consultant will employ a variety of research method that will be finalized in discussion with CHF. It is expected that both quantitative and qualitative research methods will be used in the process involving talking with businesses, private sector enterprises, government and communities/consumers on set of products to collect data that will be statistically analyzed and used.

The consultancy is planned to start in August 2011. The consultant will be required to spend 4-5 weeks in Liberia and another week out of the country in preparation and finalization of deliverables.

Qualifications
The Consultant must have sound market research and strategy development skills in relation to water and sanitation products. Key person specifications include (not limited to)
• MUST have been experience in sanitation marketing or market research relating to water and sanitation products.
• At least five years of progressive professional experience in the field of public health and community development involving promotion of sanitation products.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
• Experience working with USAID water and sanitation programs and research platforms an asset.
• Degree or graduate level degree in public health, community development or other relevant discipline will be an added advantage.
