Project Assistant
Search for Common Ground (SFCG) is an international non-profit organization that promotes peaceful resolution of conflict. With headquarters in Washington, DC and a European office in Brussels, Belgium, SECG’s mission is to transform how individuals, organizations, and governments deal with conflict – away from adversarial approaches and toward cooperative solutions. SFCG has been working in Rwanda since 2008, using media and outreach activities to foster dialogue on issues like land, youth entrepreneurship, rumor management, and girls’ participation.

Summary of Position
SFCG is seeking a Project Assistant to join its team. The Assistant’s primary responsibilities will be coordinating the preparation and broadcast of a regional radio programme that reflects key strategic issues to the organisation, working closely with partner organisations, including radio stations, youth groups, and regional institutions, as well as SFCG’s production teams in the Great Lakes. The position will report to the National Programs Manager, liaising closely with the Regional Director-Great Lakes and Rwanda on strategy and implementation. SFCG’s staff is highly flexible, responsive, and team-oriented, and the staff person is expected to engage in a similar manner.

Specific responsibilities will include:
• Identify and liaise with radio station partners to participate in regional radio programming;
• Ensure the technical capacities in the partner stations necessary for the planned broadcast;
• Support the planning and preparation of the partner team in the short-, medium-, and long-term;
• Strengthen the organizational and strategic capacity of the partners in terms of identifying topics, planning programs, and monitoring results;
• Ensure that radio program topics align with SFCG’s priorities and program issues in the region, and are produced using Common Ground methodology;
• Strengthen relationships with key regional stakeholders, including institutions, civil society groups, and others, in relation to the program;
• Ensure good coordination and complimentarily with SFCG’s programs in Burundi, DRC, and Rwanda;
• Identify opportunities for outreach and promotion that maximizes the radio program’s reach and results;
• Assist with reporting and project documentation;
• Assist with budget management;
• Contribute to the achievement of SFCG’s objectives and priority themes in the Great Lakes, including Uganda;
• Be engaged in the continuing development of the organization, its mission and its staff, through the sharing of experience and knowledge, particularly contributing to its Institutional Learning initiative; and
• Other duties as requested.

Required Qualifications
• Bachelor’s degree in journalism, mass communication, or other related field;
• Three (3) years of work experience, with at least two (2) in project management, including reporting and coordination of partners
• Strong communication skills in English and French, as well as languages of the Great Lakes region;
• Good ability to relate to others and build relationships across borders and target groups;
• Strong organizational skills;
• Interest in youth issues/youth programming
• Flexibility; and
• A sense of humour.

Other Considerations: The position will be based in Kigali, Rwanda, with travel in the region. Citizens of any of the target countries (Burundi, DRC, Rwanda, and Uganda) are welcome to apply, provided that they base themselves in Kigali.
