Communications Coordinator Job Vacancy in Canada- Summer Student Position

The Atlantic Council for International Cooperation (ACIC) is a coalition of individuals, organizations, and institutions working in the Atlantic region, which are committed to achieving global sustainability in a peaceful and healthy environment, with social justice, human dignity, and participation for all. ACIC supports its members in international cooperation and education through collective leadership, networking, information, training and coordination, and represents their interests when dealing with government and others.

ACIC also takes a leadership role in engaging Atlantic Canadians around issues relating to international development, global sustainability, and social justice. Through our public engagement work, ACIC strives to give Atlantic Canadians the knowledge, skills, and tools necessary to become active global citizens.

ACIC is looking for a responsible, experienced person for the contract position of Membership and Communications Assistant. The Communications Coordinator will work with ACIC staff responsible for the areas of membership and communications and will:

• Draft communications materials, including e-bulletin and newsletters
• Update on-line materials including website, facebook and twitter accounts.
• Assist in development of communications strategy
• Design database system to assist in communications activities with organizational membership
• Develop communications materials (press releases, media kits, etc.)
• Assist with logistics for Annual General Meeting, including registration, catering, travel arrangements, etc.
• Other activities as required

Desired Experience, Skills and Qualifications:
• Student with a background in International Development, Communications, Public relations, Journalism or equivalent
• Knowledge of NGO international development and community groups in the Atlantic
• Experience creating promotional materials
• Experience in editing, layout, and publishing of newsletters and other documents;
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills – bilingual in English and French an asset;
• Experience organizing logistics for workshops, conferences, and other events
• Ability to work independently.
• Excellent organizational and time management skills
• Excellent computer skills (MS Office, Dreamweaver, Word Press an asset)

Eligibility:
To be eligible to participate in the NS 2011 Student Career Skills Development Program, individuals must:
• have been registered as full-time students in the previous academic year and intend to pursue post-secondary studies on a full-time basis in the next academic year;
• be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial legislation and regulations.

Location: The position will be based at ACIC’s office in Halifax.
Salary: $12.00/hour for a 14-week contract (May 24 — August 29), 35 hours per week
