PDP has over 400 witnesses against Buhari’s election

The People’s Democratic Party(PDP) claims it has more than 400 witnesses to present to the election petition court where its challenge to the reelection of President Muhammadu Buhari is being heard.

Levi Uzeugwu, lead attorney for the party, said this on Monday in reaction to a question from the chairman of the tribunal, Mohammed Garba.

However, Mr Uzeugwu added that if 300 witnesses could be presented before the deadline permitted the candidates to demonstrate their case, their position would be reviewed.

Mr Uzeugwu answered a query to assist the tribunal in setting a schedule for hearing the substantive request.

Mr Garba had been told to remember the number of witnesses they had so that the tribunal would decide how long each party would be allowed to cross examine the witnesses.

“We have over 400 witnesses. But if we are able to present up to 300 we will review our case,” Mr Uzuegwu said.

After a brief explanation on the need for the parties to consider the time allowed, Mr Uzuegwu asked the court to stand down for 30 minutes so that they could decide on the witnesses they would bring and help the court to plan their schedule.

In the pre-hearing request introduced by the PDP challenging the Court’s judgment of June 11, which saw the withdrawal of an APC motion, the court had previously reserved its ruling.

One of two comparable motions previously submitted by the party was the motion revoked by the APC on June 11, challenging the validity of the petition of the PDP.

After the PDP observed that the two motions were the same, one of the motions was withdrawn by the candidates.

However, the PDP objected to this withdrawal because the party thought that rather than being withdrawn, the motion should have been struck out.
